What You Need to Know - Technical
The Learning Design Tool is a digitally secured global template within Microsoft Word that runs locally within Windows on a PC. It is not cloud based.
🛠️ To install the Learning Design Tool
Complete and submit the Download form
You will be asked to select 64 bit or 32 bit
To find out what you need:
Open File Explorer & go to your C drive.
If you see only Program Files then you are 32-bit.
If you see Program Files AND Program Files (x86) you are 64-bit.
Download and SAVE the Learning Design Tool install file on your computer.
Then, close Word if it is open, and go to your Downloads folder.
Someone with the permissions necessary to install software must click on the Learning Design Tool install file to run it.
As the Learning Design Tool is installed:
It is added to your Start menu under L for Learning Design Tool.
And it should be added to your Templates in Word.
If you do not see the Learning Design Tool as an option after clicking File > New in Word, please follow the steps in Lesson 4 in this Module
Once the install is complete
If someone other than the user ran the install - the person who will be using the Learning Design Tool needs to log in to their computer.
Then, use your computer’s Start menu to open the Learning Design Tool
This will also open Word, because the Learning Design Tool runs within Word, and you will see:
the Learning Design Tool ribbon and tab along the top of your screen.
and a Help document on your screen.
Click any button on the Learning Design Tool ribbon to bring up the registration wizard.
You must register and enter a key even if you are trying the software for free.
A key will be emailed to you.
